Traces (Try-out)

Voor het programma Traces van pianoduo Rabbit&Haas (Hanke Scheffer en Tamara Laverman) schrijft Wilbert Bulsink een cyclus voor piano vier handen en sampler. De sampler maakt gebruik van veldopnames die hij in 2010 maakte langs de randen van Europa, tijdens een fietsreis door Scandinavië, de Baltische Staten, Belarus, Oekraïne, Roemenië en Turkije: stemmen in verschillende talen, schapen, honden, koeien, krekels, (kerk)klokken, motoren, de akoestiek uit kathedralen, radarkoepels en bergdalen, koorgezang, minaretrecitaties, karaoke, wind, onweer, vuur, regen, – in de verte, te nabij, vervormd, verwaaid – alles vermengt zich met live pianoklanken, virtuoos vertolkt door Rabbit&Haas.

Vanavond zijn de eerste delen te horen, en zal Wilbert uitleg geven over zijn maakproces en de achtergronden toelichten van dit spannende project. Pianist/componist Tamara Laverman presenteert de eerste schetsen van de compositie die ze voor hetzelfde programma schrijft.

For the programme Tracesby piano duo Rabbit&Haas (Hanke Scheffer and Tamara Laverman), composer Wilbert Bulsink is writing a cycle for piano four hands and sampler. The sampler draws on field recordings he made in 2010 along the edges of Europe, during a cycling journey through Scandinavia, the Baltic States, Belarus, Ukraine, Romania and Turkey: voices in different languages, sheep, dogs, cows, crickets, (church) bells, engines, the acoustics of cathedrals, radar domes and mountain valleys, choral singing, minaret recitations, karaoke, wind, thunder, fire, rain — distant, intimate, distorted, windswept — all blending with live piano sounds, virtuously performed by Rabbit&Haas.

Tonight, the first sections of the work will be presented, and Wilbert will speak about his creative process and share the background of this exciting project. Pianist/composer Tamara Laverman will also present the first sketches of the composition she is writing for the same programme.
