[Eng] ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

In the middle of autumn, known in Arabic as ”the season of reflection/contemplation,” the IFFR Film Club brings together two different but connected films. Both films share one theme that makes us think. First, we watch the films with an open mind, without prejudgement and assumptions. We let the stories take us into their own worlds. Then, in an honest discussion, we travel back in time, to our younger selves and forward to our older selves. Beyond language, how can two generations learn from each other’s experiences? What can the way we treat our body, heart, and mind teach the other generation?

Curious about how different and/or complementary the two films can be? Here is how the filmmakers would present them:

Wat Er Toe Doet ~ Ange Wieberdink & Jet Homoet
A group of people over seventy comes together in the summer in the French countryside to paint or sculpt. They’ve been doing this for 25 years. Their hobby connects them and helps them stay active and creative.

“Remarkable how the filmmaker treats people, objects, and landscape as equals, laying bare their souls”
“With few, well-chosen words and beautiful imagery, a movingly beautiful story.”

Adelio feels lonely and misunderstood. When he meets Ravi, he learns to appreciate the beauty of life. With newfound courage, he approaches Una, but then Ravi disappears without a trace. A deep relapse looms, but Adelio chooses to move forward. Together with Una, he embarks on a new adventure.

Film Club is an initiative by International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR). It brings (aspiring) film lovers, young filmmakers, and creatives together at various locations across the city to watch films and share their interests. At the Film Club in Dokhuis, we focus on films by Rotterdam-based makers or with a local Rotterdam flavor.
